Mumbai, November 27: Much awaited AC local will run on Mumbai’s tracks from Jan 1. Cherry on the cake will be its lower fares because Western railway is planning to keep fares of AC local which will start from just Rs 10.

Isn’t that cool? Because the lower fares won’t affect the pockets of Mumbaikars and also the journey can be afforded by anyone. The first five kms of their journey will be charged Rs 10 and the maximum fare for the 60-km stretch between Churchgate and Virar has been capped at Rs 85.

“We are proposing a fare structure which will make the AC train ticket affordable for all” says Mukul Jain, Divisional manager WR.

The proposal has been forwarded to the WR board for clearance following which it will be sent to the railway board for the final approval.

Along with it Western Railway is planning to introduce monthly pass system for AC local. Existing first class pass holders will be eligible to travel by AC locals.

The plan of introducing AC locals was on papers since a decade but with seven services daily AC local will run from January 1.
