Untimely rain interrupts winter chill in Kolkata and other South Bengal districts

Kolkata, December 10: A winter loving city suddenly gets depressed due to Depression over the Bay of Bengal. Bengal Capital Kolkata and several other cities received rainfall starting from Saturday morning as an effect of the depression. Dum Dum observatory in Kolkata recorded rains to the tune of 13 mm, while Alipore observatory saw 7 mm of rains. Due to depression, the intensity of chilled winter has become lower. Moreover, the untimely rain could affect the farmers’ production of vegetables and flowers heavily.

Fishermen have been asked not to venture into the sea for the next couple of days as the condition will remain rough off the Bengal coast as well as the coastal areas of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh could also receive rainfall. The low-pressure trough formed over Bengal is expected to move towards Bangladesh.

As per prediction after continuous two days of downpour, rain can take a break from Sunday afternoon. After the raining stops, the temperature is expected to fall again triggering the winter chill. But for these two days, winter chill got totally interrupted. A cloudy sky will be cleared in the middle of the next weak with the weakening of the depression.
