New Delhi, December 27: Let bygones be bygones. Waiting for trains due to delay, train accidents due to unclear atmosphere has been increasing in the past. To avoid these necessities and proper working of the railway a new system has been introduced called as Tri-Netra. This radar system and laser rays are installed to detect any object on the track on a distance of two kilometers. It also gives a clear picture during foggy season.

Terrain Imaging for Diesel Drivers- Infrared Enhanced Optical and Radar Assisted (Tri-NETRA) meaning the ‘third eye’ has been mechanized by the authorities so that the drivers have a proper view of the atmosphere and no accidents take place due to intense fog during winter. Trails on this new invention have been done on almost 100 trains.

Key facts:

The system comprises of two high resolution video camera, infra-red video camera and a terrain mapping system.

These three components will help in creating an image of the further atmosphere which enables the Locomotive Pilot to have an overview of the condition before starting the train.

The installed system will help in improving the vision of the locomotive drivers in difficult weather conditions, such as fog, heavy rains, during night time etc. so that they have enough time to apply brakes without hitting the objects/obstructions.

This will also help in maintaining high speed in poor visibility and avoid delay in arrivals.

This system has been used by the naval force in ships to have clear view of the weather and also by fighter air-crafts for clear visibility of clouds. This concept was developed by the Mechanical Cell of the railway board and the results have been good till now.
