Amaravati, April 25: Following the footsteps of neighboring Telangana, Telugu Desam government under the leadership of Nara Chandra Babu Naidu is planning to launch an affordable food court in major municipalities in the state. If everything goes as per the plan, the much-anticipated state-sponsored ‘Anna Canteens’ will be launched by June 2 in Ongole district. In 2014, TDP had promised to set up affordable food court for people. According to state officials, renowned NGO Akshayapatra Foundation is ready to team up with state government. The foundation under the scheme of Annapurna canteens is already working with Telangana government.
A team of municipal commissioners was sent to Chennai and Hyderabad study the module adopted by respective state governments. The expert committee had submitted its findings to the Chief Minister. In Tamil Nadu, state government runs Amma canteen. Akshaya Patra Foundation, a Bengaluru based NGO proactively implements the mid-day meal programme by serving wholesome food to over 1.6 million children from 13,839 schools across 12 states in India. Founded in the year 2000, the foundation began its operations staring with 1,500 children across 5 schools.
