Congratulating for his re-election, PM Modi pitches on enhancing India-Portugal ties with PM Antonio Costa

New Delhi, October 7: Portugal's Socialist Prime Minister Antonio Costa, an Indian origin, scored a comfortable victory in Sunday’s general election. Congratulating his Portugal counterpart, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated his "friend", Portuguese premier Antnio Costa, on Monday for his party's performance in the parliamentary polls of the European country.

Prime Minister Modi said that he looked forward to continue working together with him to enhance the relations between India and Portugal. Tweeting a congratulatory post, PM Modi tweeted, “Congratulations to @psocialista and my friend, @antoniocostapm for the good performance in the parliamentary elections in Portugal. Looking forward to continuing working together to further enhance India-Portugal friendship.”

The prime minister also posted a photo of him with Costa and wrote the message in English as well as Portuguese.

Born on July 17, 1961 in Lisbon, Costa was raised in the intellectual circles frequented by his parents, Orlando da Costa, a communist writer descended from a family from Goa, Portugal's former colony in India, and Maria Antonia Palla, a journalist and women's rights advocate.
