Two years after it's release, political thriller drama 'Indu Sarkar' now makes its post in National Film Archives of India

Mumbai, July 20: The period political thriller ‘Indu Sarkar’ set around during the emergency period of 1975 to 1977, makes its entry to the National Film Archive of India. Handing over the digital film copy to NFAI for the purpose of archiving, noted film director Madhur Bhandarkar clarified that it was not a biopic on the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi but just a political drama.

 
The movie which is based on true events of the emergency period imposed by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, stars Kirti Kulhari, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Supriya Vinod, Rashmi Jha and Anupam Kher in the major roles.
 
Well-known director Madhur Bhandarkar made his directorial debut with Trishakti and went on to direct several critically and commercially successful films. His films are known for presenting revealing realities of glamour world.
 
Chandni Bar (2001), won him the National Film Award for Best Film on Social Issues. Whereas Bhandarkar received the National Film Awards for the Best Feature Film and Best Director for Page 3 (2005) and Traffic Signal (2007) respectively.
 
The film generated controversy since the time its trailer got released where Indian National Congress supporters heavily criticised director Bhandarkar's attempt to portray former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi and her son Sanjay Gandhi in a bad light. However, the director clarified that it was not a biopic on the former Prime Minister under whose regime the Emergency was declared in the country in 1975.
