Panaji, August 14: Spotting a sum of stray dogs on the runway at Goa’s Dambolim in the midnight, the pilot of the Air India flight AI 033 from Mumbai moved up aborting the landing, recovering itself safe in the second approach after around a slot of 15 minutes.
“AI 033 from Mumbai while landing in Goa’s Dabolim around 3 am on August 13 reported to Air Traffic Controller about dogs on runway and going around. The aircraft was recovered safely in the second approach. Being night hours, no dogs were sighted by Air Traffic Controller and runway controller”, the statement read.
Meanwhile reacting to the situation staunch, Goa CM Pramod Sawant has said that the state will look into the matter to the brim. Also the Indian Navy said that INS Hansa, near Dabolim had taken proactive measures to reduce dog menace on runway with employment of manpower during daylight hours adjacent to runway to chase away dogs and birds.
“Additionally, a MoU has been signed with State Government under which they are to sterilize and relocate up to 200 dogs from the vicinity of runway”, read the Navy statement.
