Ladakh celebrates it's First Raising Day on Oct 31 2020

Leh, Oct 31: The Union Territory of Ladakh is celebrating it's first raising day today and thus the Union Territory Foundation Day. The region which was initially a part of the state of Jammu and Kashmir became a Centre-ruled union territory on this day in 2019. The theme for the first year celebration of Ladakh as a UT is 'One year of Development, Prosperity and Empowerment.'

The UT Administration has planned the first year anniversary celebrations across the region. A series of foundation programs are planned in Leh and Kargil districts of Ladakh. Due to the COVID 19 norms, Ladakh Lieutenant Governor R K Mathur, will be participating in most of these events virtually.
 
As the UT celebrates it's first raising day after separating form the neighbouring Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh will also officially have it's own legislative members after the abrogation of Article 370. During an event at the Sindhu Sanskriti Kendra, the Leh District Sessions Judge administered the oath to the newly elected Councillors of LAHDC Leh. Later, the newly elected Councillors met at LAHDC Leh secretariat in order to elect the Chief Executive Councillor and Deputy Chairman for the 6th LAHDC Leh.
 
According to the recent election results, BJP has won the majority to lead the Leh Hill Council consecutively for the second time, with 15 Councillors out of 26. While Nine from Congress and two independents got elected in the polls that were concluded on Oct 23.
