Abu Dhabi, November 19: In a major development, the United Arab Emirate has suspended the issuance of visit visas to visitors for Pakistan and 11 other countries, until further announcement.
However the suspension will not apply to visas that have already been issued, and restriction will continue till further orders. Besides Pakistan, the UAE government suspended the issuance of visit visas to Turkey, Iran, Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Somalia, Libya, Kenya, and Afghanistan among others.
Moreover, UAE has not yet revealed the reason behind the suspension, however, Pakistan Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said that the decision by the UAE authorities is “believed to be related to the second wave of COVID-19.”
He also confirmed the news saying that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has suspended the issuance of visit visas to citizens of a dozen countries, including Pakistan.
It was not immediately clear how many categories of visas would be affected by the suspension. The UAE has various visa categories, including business, tourist, transit, and student.
Last month hundreds of Pakistani passengers were denied entry into the UAE and repatriated after they were unable to meet the new entry criteria set by the authorities for visit visa holders.
This has come amid when Pakistan and UAE's relation has worsened due to Pakistan's growing ties with Turkey. It is worth to be noted that tensions have raised between Turkey and the UAE over the Libyan crisis as both countries are supporting the two opposing sides for a power-struggle in Libya.
