Panaji, Nov 27: Kerala Blasters FC picked up their first points in Hero Indian Super League (ISL) after a 2-2 draw with NorthEast United FC at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim.
- Sergio Cidoncha gave Kerala Blasters an early lead with a well-controlled header.
- Gary Hooper doubled Kerala’s lead from the penalty spot on the brink of halftime.
- Kwesi Appiah scored NorthEast United FC’s first goal in the second half but missed a penalty that would have leveled the score.
- Substitute Idrissa Sylla netted the equalizer for NorthEast late in the game.
- Kerala raced into the lead with just five minutes on the clock. Seityasen Singh was the man who provided the assist courtesy of a delightful set-piece from the right that Cidoncha headed into the back of the net to make it 1-0 for the Blasters.
Kerala's Sergio Cidoncha went for an opener and Gary Hooper scored their second while Kwesi Appiah then netted for NorthEast six minutes into the second period before missing a penalty.
As NorthEast was continuing to search for an equaliser, however, Kerala kept their shape and concentration to make it difficult for the Highlanders to create any proper chances. The Blasters’ resistance, though, was finally broken in the final minute of normal time. Substitute Idrissa Sylla came off the bench to score the equaliser for the Highlanders in the 90th minute.
Hero of the Match – Dylan Fox
Dylan Fox had another solid game at the back for NorthEast against Kerala. Always in the right place at the right time to avert danger, Fox made five clearances at the back and marshalled the backline. He also finished the match with a passing accuracy of 88 per cent and was a leader at the back for the Highlanders.
