After Maharashtra, Karnataka Govt Imposes Night Curfew Till Jan 2

Bengaluru, December 24: Following the Maharashtra government, the Karnataka government has imposed a night curfew in the state from 10 pm to 6 am from December 23 to January 2. This comes amid when amid global fears over the new strain of coronavirus discovered in the UK.

While making the announcement, Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa said, “In view of the new strain of Covid-19 virus and as per the advice from the Government of India and the Technical Advisory Committee, it has been decided to impose night curfew, from today till January 2."
 
"Passengers coming from foreign countries to the state should carry COVID negative certificates obtained within the last 72 hours. Necessary arrangements have been made at the International Airport, and nobody can enter the state without a test,” added CM Yediyurappa.
"This (night curfew) has been done to prevent and contain the coronavirus strain found in the UK. We are also monitoring international passengers arriving in the state," Karnataka Health Minister Dr. K Sudhakar said, adding "there's no ban on interstate travel". Schools will reopen for class 10 and class 12 students from January 1, the Health Minister said.
 
On Monday, Maharashtra announced an 11 PM to 6 AM night curfew till January 5 in Mumbai and other cities, a day after Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said he was against a night curfew although experts had recommended it.
 
India has announced a temporary travel ban to the UK. Apart from India over 30 countries have announced a temporary UK travel ban. The mutant strain was first reported in Britain in September and has led to a surge in the country's Covid cases. Italy and Denmark have also reported patients infected with the mutant strain.
