Ex-Prez Mukherjee undergoes brain surgery, on ventilator support

New Delhi, Aug 11: Former President Pranab Mukherjee is presently on ventilator support after he underwent brain surgery and had also tested positive for the Covid-19 prior to the surgery.

According to the reports, 84-year-old Mukherjee was admitted to the Army’s Research and Referral (R & R) Hospital on Monday. He has tested positive for the coronavirus tests prior to the surgery.

The R & R Hospital sources said on Tuesday that Mukherjee underwent brain surgery and he continues to be critical and is on the ventilator support.

Mukherjee has been admitted to the Hospital in Delhi Cantonment on August 10 in a critical condition. At the hospital, the examination revealed a large clot in his brain for which he was operated upon. Post-surgery, he continues to be critical and on ventilator support, the hospital’s health bulletin said.

He is being looked after by a multi-disciplinary team of doctors at the hospital. This team is constantly monitoring the health condition of the former President.

Mukherjee tweeted on Monday that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and urged people who had come in contact with him in the last week to isolate themselves and get tested for the novel coronavirus.

People across the country are praying for his speedy recovery as soon as the news about his hospitalization spread.

President Ram Nath Kovind spoke to the President’s daughter Sharmistha Mukherjee and enquired about his health on Monday evening.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid a visit to the R & R Hospital on Monday to enquire about the health of Pranab Mukherjee.

Mukherjee was elected as President in July 2012 and served a full term till he retired in 2017 as 13th President of India.
