Thiruvananthapuram, May 15: Amid the time when several states are suspending the 18+ vaccination drive, Kerala started registration for COVID-19 vaccination of people above the age of 18. The drive will begin on Monday.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan gave the information via social media. Cm said, "As per Centre's direction, 2nd dose of Covishield will be given only to those who completed 84 days after 1st dose. 2nd dose of Covaxin should be taken 4-6 weeks after 1st dose. Registration for 18-44 age group will start from tomorrow & vaccination to start from Monday."
Under the instructions of the Health and Family Welfare Ministry, the state will inoculate a second dose of Covidshield. On 10 May. the state had received 3.5 lakh doses of Covishield vaccine to control the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier, the Central Government had also appreciated Kerala's efforts for zero vaccine wastage. Owing to the rising cases of COVID-19 cases, Kerala has also extended the lockdown in the state till 23 May. The state reported 34,694 Covid-19 cases during the last 24 hours.
Maharashtra and Karnataka have suspended vaccination for the 18 above groups amid a shortage of vaccines.
