Showing that he is true nationalist, renowned singer Gurdas Maan cancelled all his shows in Canada scheduled from October 22 to October 31, amid the ongoing diplomatic tension between India and Canada. The team has shared the update about his concert on social media and said refund will also be initiated from their end.
The shows, organized under the title ‘Akhiyaan Udeekdiyan’ had almost sold out all tickets. However, in light of the strain in relations between the two countries, the singer canceled his Canada tour, citing it as the "most responsible and necessary course of action for the time being", through his production house.
"In light of the current diplomatic unrest between the two countries and after careful consideration and assessment of the unpredictable circumstances, it has been determined that the cancellation of the event is the most responsible and necessary course of action for the time being," the production house posted on Facebook announcing the cancellation of Gurdas Mann's tour.
The event was being coordinated by Gurjit Bal Productions. The production house announced the cancellation through a Facebook post and assured that ticket refunds would be processed for all those who had purchased tickets.
India on Thursday asserted that Canada must reduce its diplomatic presence in the country to achieve parity in strength and alleged that some of the Canadian diplomats are involved in interfering in New Delhi’s internal matters, signalling continuing slide in the ties between the two nations over the killing of a Sikh separatist leader in June.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said discussions on the modalities to arrive at mutual diplomatic presence are going on and gave clear indication that India will not review its position on the issue.
