In an unfortunate incident, around 25 people, including three children, were charred to death and eight others suffered injuries after a bus, in which they were travelling, caught fire on the Maharashtra expressway.
The incident happened around 2 am on Saturday. About 33 people were on the bus when the unfortunate incident took place.
What actually happened ?
Police said the bus overturned after hitting a pole on the expressway and caught fire in Buldhana district. "The driver of the bus, who survived the incident, said that the bus hit the pole after a tyre burst," they said.
The bus overturned on the side of the doors, blocking it, because of which nobody could get out, police said.
“25 bodies are extracted from the bus. A total of 32 people were travelling on the bus. 6-8 people are injured. Injured are being shifted to Buldhana Civil Hospital,” said Buldhana Police Deputy SP Baburao Mahamuni.
One of the survivors of the ill-fated bus that caught fire and led to the death of 25 passengers in Maharashtra’s Buldhana district on Saturday, said he and a few others managed to come out of the burning vehicle by breaking its rear window.
Government's reaction
PM Narendra Modi expressed grief after 26 people were killed when a bus caught fire in Maharashtra's Buldhana district. He announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each for families of those killed and ₹50,000 each for those injured. CM Eknath Shinde announced a compensation of ₹5 lakh each for victims. He added a probe will be launched into the accident.
CM Shinde, who is likely to visit the accident spot, further said that the government will look into the safety measures on Samruddhi Mahamarg as many accidents were reported on the route recently.
