OMG 2 starring Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam is performing well at the box office despite strog competition posed by Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer and Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2. This also brings an end to Akshay Kumar's misery of giving flops at the box office.
While Gadar 2 is clearly leading the box office charts in the northern states, OMG 2 has managed to amass an impressive nett total of Rs 84.72 crore domestically and a global collection of Rs 111.8 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
Amidst widespread rumours regarding the film’s budget, a segment of social media also says that it exceeds Rs 150 crore.
However, Ajit Andhare, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Viacom18 Studios, which co-produced the movie alongside Cape of Good Films and Wakaoo Films, has dispelled these speculations and firmly stated that the circulating figures are far from accurate.
"The reports of the budget of OMG 2 are grossly exaggerated. On the contrary, Akshay didn't charge a rupee in fee and in fact, walked alongside us in both the financial and creative risk involved in such a courageous film. We share a long history and understanding with him as a studio since OMG, Special 26, and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. I have been totally in lockstep with him in taking up scripts that are unconventional but stand for something larger and meaningful," he
told Pinkvilla.
Written and directed by Amit Rai, ‘OMG 2’ features Pankaj Tripathi as a devotee of Lord Shiva named Kanti Sharan Mudgal and Akshay. The film touches upon various issues of teenagers and the importance of sex education.
On Thursday, the actor thanked viewers for giving the Indian film industry "the greatest week in Indian film history" following the positive response to both ‘Gadar 2’ and ‘OMG 2.’ "A big thank you to our audiences for all the love for #OhMyGadar and giving us the greatest week in Indian Film History! Pyaar aur aabhar (Love and gratitude) #Gadar2 in cinemas #OMG2 in cinemas," he wrote.
The actor used the hashtag #OhMyGadar in an apparent reference to the combined success of ‘OMG 2’ and ‘Gadar 2’, both sequels. ‘Gadar 2’ has collected Rs 284.63 crore at the domestic box office, while the worldwide collection is Rs. 369 crore.
