Seven decades of Chartered Accountancy..! Honoring first line of defence to unwary public against money grabbers

New Delhi, July 1: Proclaiming the responsibility towards fast increasing tempo of the industrial and economic development in India, Chartered Accountancy as a profession realises that it belongs to the first line of defence to the unwary public against money grabbers and opportunists.
 
Celebrating 70 years of its dignity and proficiency, the CA community all over the nation is up hailing its existence recommending a mix of great aim, knowledge, hard work and perseverance.
  
 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi while wishing a merry day to all the Chartered Accountants said, “The hardworking fraternity of CAs has been furthering the culture of honesty and better corporate governance in our society. CAs also play a key role in advancing economic prosperity”.
“The seven decade old journey of ICAI has been glorious one. CAs have been shouldering the onerous responsibility of keeping the financial systems of the nation in good health. They have earned laurels across the world for their dexterity in financial skills”, he added.

 
 
Honouring the long fulfilling journey of excellence, at the turn of the seventh decade ICAI president CA Prafulla Chhajed recalled the words of the first President G. P. Kapadia, “In discharging the duties and performing various functions, the paramount consideration which should weigh with the members of the profession is that the CAs are not merely performing particular duties to earn emoluments, but that they have to discharge a wider function".
 
 
"Their obligation-a moral one-is to function in such a way that they are above suspicion and, as members of the learned and an honourable profession, they provide service to the community being accountable to the authorities and also to the legislature of the country which has bestowed autonomy on the profession", he added reffering to the professionals.
 
Starting with a few hundred members in 1949, ICAI today has about 3 lakh members. With its 5 Regional Councils and 164 Branches spread across the nation and 34 overseas Chapters across the globe, the members strongly contribute to both national and global economy and this indeed forms the base of celebration.
