Lucknow, July 27: Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly was adjourned sine die on Friday after a brief monsoon session. The Assembly, which had a total of seven sittings beginning July 18, passed the first supplementary budget of the current fiscal worth 13,595.87 crore rupees.

The House also passed 13 important bills including the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities Bill, 2019 during the session. The Speaker, Hriday Narain Dixit has thanked all the members for ensuring the smooth conduct of the House.

Meanwhile, Upper House, Uttar Pradesh legislative Council also adjourned sine die on Friday. Chairperson Ramesh Yadav, after completing its business scheduled for the day, adjourned the house.

On Thursday, the State Assembly passed the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities Bill amid Opposition protests over a clause that compels the institutes to provide an undertaking that they will not allow any anti-national activity on the campus.

The Bill aims to bring 27 private universities in the State under an umbrella law, and also enforce transparency on fees and the admission process. The Bill was passed by voice vote even as the Samajwadi Party objected to some of its sections and demanded that it should be referred to a select committee.

SP legislator Ujjawal Raman Singh said the section on anti-national activities had created a suspicion that the Bill was aimed against a particular university.
