I&B Ministry Permits Sudarshan News To Air Remaining Episodes Of ‘UPSC Jihad’ With Certain Changes

New Delhi, November 19: Information and Broadcasting Ministry permitted Suresh Chavhanke led Sudarshan News to air the remaining episode of its ‘UPSC Jihad’ series after moderating it in accordance with the Programme Code.

In its affidavit, the ministry has said that the news channel has to be cautious about its content in the future. “After examining all the facts and circumstances of the case and balancing the fundamental rights of the broadcaster, hereby “CAUTIONS” Sudarshan TV Channel Ltd. to be careful in the future.”
 
 
 
I&B also stated that the Ministry finds that they are not in good taste, offensive and has a likelihood of promoting communal attitudes.
 
In order ministry has asked the channel to moderate the show in a way that there is no violation of the Programme Code. It should not contain an attack on religions or communities or visuals or words contemptuous of religious groups which promote communal attitudes. The ministry asked the channel to remove anything obscene, defamatory, false, and suggestive from the show.
 
It also said that the channel has been told “that if any violation of the Programme Code is found in future, stricter penal action would be taken.”
 
The I&B Ministry passed the order after hearing the grievances against the controversial programme which had alleged a deliberate ploy on the part of the Muslim community to infiltrate civil services terming it, UPSC Jihad.
 
It should be noted that the Sudarshan News had triggered an outrage after it aired a promo for the program which was to be broadcast on August 28. Following which Supreme Court had restrained the channel from airing the remaining episodes in September, observing that prima facie, the intent was to vilify the Muslim community.
 
On September 23, the Centre had informed the top court that it has prima facie found violations of the programme code by Sudarshan TV’s “Bindas Bol” show and has issued a show-cause notice to the channel.
