'No lockdown in Karnataka for now', clarifies CM Yediyurappa

New Delhi, April 13: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Tuesday clarified that the government is not imposing any lockdown in the state for now. He said that there is no question of imposing lockdown right now. He further has also urged the people to adhere to COVID's appropriate behavior.

"There is no question of lockdown right now. The technical advisory committee has suggested that positive cases will increase here till May 2. Hence, people must abide by COVID appropriate behavior," said Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa.
 
 
He further informed that he has also called an all-party meeting on April 18 to discuss the COVID situation in the state.
 
State Health Minister Dr. K Sudhakar also has said that state the government was not inclined to a lockdown and wanted people to cooperate. “Neither me nor the Chief Minister is saying that we will do it (lockdown). All we are saying is don’t compel us to push to that extreme. Our government is not at all willing to impose lockdown,” he clarified.

Just earlier in the day, he has warned the people that the government will soon impose 'Night Curfew' in other areas also if the cases continue to rise in the state. He said, if the number of positive cases does not come down soon, a night curfew will be imposed in other districts in the state where it has not yet been imposed.
 
 
Karnataka reported 9,579 new COVID-19 cases, 2,767 discharges, and 52 deaths on Monday. With this, the coronavirus tally reached 10,74,869 in the state. Currently, there are 75,985 active cases in the state.
 
It should be noted that the country is currently facing the second wave. Yesterday India overtakes Brazil and becomes the world's second-worst COVID hit country. India recorded a massive surge of 161,736 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. India's Covid tally has shot up to 13,689,453 cases, according to MOHFW. . India also witnessed 880 fatalities due to covid-19 in a single day. The death toll from the deadly infection stands at 171,089.
