New Delhi, Mar 11: Following the Congress' defeat in Punjab's assembly elections, outgoing Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi went to the Raj Bhawan and submitted his resignation to Governor Banwarilal Purohit.
"I have tendered my resignation to the Governor. He told me and the cabinet to continue until the new government is sworn in. We accept the verdict of the people. We will continue to serve them," said Channi.
"I request the new government to continue the public welfare projects and schemes that we brought in, in the last 111 days," he added.
On the other hand, after the Aam Aadmi Party's stupendous victory in Punjab, its chief ministerial face, Bhagwant Mann, met Delhi's chief minister and party national convener, Arvind Kejriwal, at his residence here on Friday. As per the report, the oath-taking ceremony of the new Punjab cabinet will be held at Khatkarkalan in Nawanshahr district, the ancestral village of legendary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh.
The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday stormed to power in Punjab, bagging a record 92 of the 117 seats by decimating the Congress and the SAD-BSP combine, and handing a defeat to several stalwarts including chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Parkash Singh Badal, and Amarinder Singh.
