During a discussion on the Jammu and Kashmir budget, Sitharaman used strong words to accuse Congress of leaving the minority Pandit community in the State to its own devices.

Citing the series of tweets of the congress party, Sitharaman stated that Congress not only downplayed the Kashmiri genocide issue, but it also portrayed that the Kashmiri Pandit left the Valley on their own, due to lure of financial benefit and land offer in Delhi and not because they were forced.

She also hit out at former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah for abandoning Hindus during the crucial situation. She also asked the Congress Party why a separatist, who had accepted that he killed an Indian Air Force officer, was invited by the then Prime Minister of India and shook hands with him.

Following the sharp attack by Sitharama, speechless MPs of the Congress, NCP, TMC, and the National Conference walked out of Lok Sabha in protest against the remarks made by the minister after the Speaker did not allow the opposition members to intervene
