After 11 months, Kashmir schools to reopen from March 1

Srinagar, Feb 23: The School Education Department of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir has ordered re-opening of all schools in Kashmir Division and Winter Zone of Jammu Division from Mar 1 in a staggered manner. The schools for class 9th to 12th will re-open with effect from Mar 1 while in case of classes up to class 8th, teachers shall attend the schools from Mar 1 for preparation, whereas the students shall physically attend classes from Mar 8.

According to the order issued by the School Education Department, all the SoPs in this regard will remain unchanged and will be followed in letter and spirit by the concerned. Schools in the Summer Zone of Jammu Division have already opened on Feb 1. The order reads that all students will be mandated to wear masks and ensure social distancing. Schools are to ensure facilities to wash hands with soap, provided to students and teachers on the premises. The educational institutions in the UT were shut since March last year in the view of COVID 19 pandemic.

The Director School Education Kashmir, (DESK), Mohmammed Youns Malik, had said that there is no confusion as they have already issued the order that all schools will be reopened on Mar 1, after the gap of eight months. Pertinently, the winter vacation in Kashmir schools was announced on Dec 10 and the schools are now set to open on Mar 1. The DESK had said that before reopening of the schools there will be sanitization and cleaning of schools 5 days before and had added that "We have issued the guidelines to the school heads to ensure proper cleaning and sanitation of class rooms."
