With the coming examination that is to be held on June 27, Leh will be the 73rd centre in the country to hold the preliminary exam for Civil Services. The UPSC Secretary Vasudha Mishra informed the decision to the UT Ladakh Advisor Umang Narula to allocate a centre in Leh for Ladakh. Leh Deputy Commissioner will be the Coordinating Supervisor for the Leh centre. The supervisor has to ensure the accessibility, infrastructure and other parameters as prescribed by the UPSC, at the exam venues.

At least 800 candidates are expected to attend the civil services preliminary exam from the Union Territory Ladakh. After successfully conducting the NEET exam amidst the COVID 19 pandemic, the UT administration is taking the civil exam prestigiously and making all efforts to meet the UPSC indicated list of points by the cutoff dates.

Initially, the students had appearing for the civil services from the Ladakh region had to travel to Jammu, which was the only nearest centre for the entire region of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Thus, the candidates appearing for the preliminary examination from Ladakh had to travel approximately 800 km. Besides, just one centre for the entire large region of the former state of Jammu and Kashmir also added administrative pressure on the centre in Jammu. The news comes as welcomed move for both students as well as the administration as it facilitates ease of action for both.
